I exported tasks to Google Sheet, where I’d like to make several edits and deletions and then import back into a list (preferably a new one).
I understand that reconciling duplicates or revisions of tasks would be difficult, so even just the ability to import tasks to a new list as opposed to an existing one would be extremely useful.

Unfortunately, the Google Tasks created from a Google Chat Room / Google Space / Google Docs are new features and are not retrievable from the Google Tasks API yet.
We will support these features as soon as Google makes them available for developers.
You can star this issue on their API issue tracker here https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/173343990 to speed up the process. Thanks!

Second the above. My main tasks list somehow got a bunch of junk added to it. Over 200-300 entries that are all links (still not sure how that happened). Since there’s no way to select and delete multiple entries it would be an extremely tedious process to delete them one by one. I discovered the ability to export to Google Sheets and easily deleted all the junk entries but was surprised there is no ability to import them back in.

Tasks API obviously allows task creation. Your website can take an upload of a csv and use the google tasks API only to assign a new task. Neither google nor any company or dev would consider it necessary for an applications API to specifically implement something that nearly every other site on the internet has already implemented - uploading and parsing data. Not implementing import for years is quite lazy and the reason I am cancelling after I export my data.
